Yoga helps to improve the body’s alignment by increasing flexibility and range of movement, leading to better posture and helping to relieve back, neck and joint pain.  Yoga also teaches us that the mind and body are connected, and that by reintegrating them, we can live more healthy lives. By practicing yoga breathing techniques, we can change our body’s response to stress by slowing and deepening our breathing.

Yoga is for everyone, no matter if you’re physically fit or not, flexible or not, young or old. The postures and breathing techniques can be modified to suit everyone’s abilities. Even those who are pregnant, or have a chronic illness or disability can benefit from regular yoga practice. In yoga we all begin where we are, and we focus on improved physical and mental health. The yoga class offers a place to retreat from your daily stresses and an opportunity to reconnect with your inner self. By creating a safe and quiet space, we can take time to relax, renew and rest, so that we can go on with our daily lives with a new sense of ease, and increased energy and awareness.

Kari Kukkola is a graduate of the Helen Duquette 2 year Yoga Teacher Training Program (over one thousand hours of academic study and apprentice teaching) and teaches in the tradition of Vanda Scaravelli with emphasis on lengthening of the spine, grounding of the body and moving with the breath. Kari has been teaching professionally since 2002 and has extensive experience teaching all levels of students from beginners to advanced students, and is also experienced in teaching students who are working with various health issues.
